North Korea Enhances Military Presence in Russia with Additional Troops
North Korea has sent an additional 3,500 troops to Russia ahead of deployment to Ukraine, following earlier troops sent in January and February. The report comes from South Korean lawmaker Yu, citing intelligence from Ukraine’s defense officials. Casualties among North Korean troops have been significant, with approximately 400 killed and many others wounded.
A South Korean lawmaker, Yu, has reported that North Korea has dispatched an additional 3,500 troops to Russia in preparation for deployment in Ukraine. This move follows earlier troop deployments, which included 1,500 troops sent in January and February to replace personnel who had been killed or injured among the initial contingent of 11,000 troops sent to the city of Kursk in October.
According to Yu, the latest batch of North Korean soldiers is currently engaged in field adaptation training at five locations throughout Russia’s Far East. There is potential for a third deployment to occur. This information stems from a briefing by Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s defense intelligence, which Yu attended during his visit to Ukraine from February 23 to 26.
It has been reported that approximately 400 North Korean troops have died in the conflict so far. Meanwhile, of the 3,600 wounded soldiers, around 300 have returned to active duty following their recuperation.
