U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the FBI successfully arrested David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman, a 27-year-old Salvadoran national, on February 27 in Hyattsville, Maryland. Orellana is charged in El Salvador with serious crimes, including possession of firearms, extortion, and affiliation with a terrorist organization. His apprehension has been described as a significant blow to the MS-13 gang, which operates transnationally in the United States, Mexico, and Europe.

Matthew Elliston, the acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, emphasized the importance of this arrest, stating, “The apprehension of David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman strikes a significant blow to the leadership and organization of the MS-13 terrorist organization.” He underscored the collaborative efforts between ICE and the FBI to enhance public safety by targeting illegal alien offenders in communities.

William J. DelBagno, Special Agent in Charge for the FBI Baltimore field office, remarked, “Maryland is immediately safer because of this arrest.” He asserted that Orellana’s removal from his leadership role within the gang is a testament to the effectiveness of cooperative investigations aimed at dismantling violent criminal activities.

Orellana’s criminal history includes an arrest in El Salvador on December 1, 2016, for serious offenses. He illegally entered the United States at an undetermined date and location without proper inspection or documentation. Additionally, Orellana was arrested by the Prince George’s County Police Department on December 9, 2024, for driving without a license.
