Racing Association of Maldives Achieves FIA Membership

The Racing Association of Maldives has gained FIA membership, enabling access to resources, international recognition, and development opportunities. This supports local competitions and infrastructure while promoting road safety and athlete training. Despite previous setbacks, RAM remains active in international motorsport events.
The Racing Association of Maldives (RAM) has achieved membership in the International Automobile Federation (FIA). This prestigious membership was granted during the FIA’s Annual General Meeting held on December 13, 2022, in Rwanda. President Mohamed Shamih announced that this recognition presents numerous opportunities for the promotion of motor sports within the Maldives.
With FIA membership, RAM will gain access to vital resources and expertise, as well as international recognition that was previously inaccessible to the Maldives. This allows RAM to ensure that local competitions adhere to international standards and engage in FIA development programs. Furthermore, it opens avenues for participation in international competitions.
The association is also looking to develop motor sports infrastructure by creating designated areas for activities such as racetracks and training centers while prioritizing environmental sustainability. RAM intends to collaborate with relevant local agencies to elevate public awareness of road safety and to facilitate training opportunities for aspiring motorsport athletes throughout the nation.
Since its formation in 2018, RAM has successfully organized numerous tournaments with strong support from various sectors. However, their efforts faced a setback when the 2024 RAAS Championship was halted by local law enforcement, citing the prohibition of the event. Notwithstanding these challenges, RAM clubs and athletes have actively participated in international competitions, notably advancing to the semi-finals of the Sri Lanka Drag Wars this year.
In summary, the Racing Association of Maldives has attained FIA membership, which marks a significant milestone for motor sports in the Maldives. This membership not only enhances opportunities for local competitions and infrastructure development but also facilitates international recognition and collaboration. RAM continues to strive for the growth and promotion of motor sports while addressing safety and sustainability concerns within the country.
