The Kenya Meteorological Department forecasts mostly dry and sunny weather across the country from February 8 to 12, 2025. Rain is expected in southwestern Kenya and along the Tanzania border, with potential showers in various highland areas. Coastal regions will remain primarily dry, while strong winds may affect northeastern counties.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has published a revised five-day weather forecast for the period spanning from Saturday, February 8, to Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The forecast indicates that the majority of the country will experience dry and sunny conditions, with rain primarily expected in southwestern Kenya and regions near the Tanzania border.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley—including Nairobi and adjacent counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka—predominantly dry weather is anticipated. However, light showers may occur on Saturday, Sunday, Monday afternoons, and Wednesday, with possible evening showers on Monday. On Wednesday, rain is expected throughout the day, particularly light in the morning followed by afternoon and evening showers.

Temperatures in these highland regions are projected to reach highs of 28°C on Tuesday and Wednesday, and minimum temperatures are expected to drop to 10°C. On the other three days, high temperatures will reach 27°C and lows will be around 8°C.

Western areas of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin, which include counties like Kisumu, Kisii, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Kakamega, and Busia, may experience morning, afternoon, and evening showers from Saturday to Monday. The forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday suggests a mix of clouds and sunshine. These areas are expected to see temperatures rise to highs of 31°C and low temperatures declining to around 9°C.

Coastal counties, such as Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale, are predicted to remain primarily dry during the day, with occasional nighttime clouds. Daytime temperatures in these coastal areas are anticipated to exceed 32°C, while nighttime temperatures may reach up to 21°C.

In the southeastern lowlands, which include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as parts of Tana River County, rain is expected on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday afternoons, with partly cloudy conditions in the mornings and evenings. In these regions, highs of 31°C and lows around 12°C are forecasted for the five-day period.

The northeastern counties—Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo—can anticipate sunny intervals during the day and partially cloudy nights, with temperatures peaking at 38°C and dipping to lows of 17°C.

Dr. David Gikungu, the Director General of the Kenya Meteorological Department, has advised residents in the northwestern and northeastern parts of the country to be vigilant for strong southeasterly winds, which are expected to reach speeds of up to 25 knots (12.5 m/s).

The Kenya Meteorological Department’s five-day forecast outlines predominantly sunny and dry weather for many regions, with the exception of expected rainfall in specific areas. Residents are advised to prepare for changing conditions, particularly in highland and coastal areas, and heed warnings regarding strong winds in the northeastern regions.
