Jorge Martin, the reigning MotoGP champion, is unable to participate in the Argentina Grand Prix due to a left hand injury sustained during training. His recovery has been slow, which also leads to him missing the season opener in Thailand. Martin’s participation in future races, including the US GP, is subject to passing fitness tests.

Reigning MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin has officially been ruled out of the upcoming Argentina Grand Prix due to a left hand injury sustained in a training accident. The news was confirmed by MotoGP doctor Angel Charte, who noted that Martin’s recovery from a left hand fracture has been progressing slowly. Consequently, he will miss the race scheduled for March 14-16, having already withdrawn from the season opener in Thailand.

Dr. Charte expressed confidence in Martin’s spirits, remarking, “Martin is in high spirits. As always, he is a very vital man.” However, he emphasized the importance of proper healing for the scaphoid fracture, stating that an inadequate recovery could lead to long-term complications. The medical team considers the situation carefully, acknowledging the slow nature of Martin’s recovery process.

This injury marks another setback for Martin, who had recently suffered multiple injuries while preparing for the season. Earlier this month, during testing in Malaysia, he sustained fractures to his right hand and left foot. While he managed to complete surgery for the right hand, he unfortunately broke his left hand while training shortly before the Gran Prix in Thailand, leading to the need for further surgical intervention.

As a result, he will not compete in the Buriram race this weekend, and further participation in upcoming events, including the US Grand Prix at Austin on March 30, will depend on his successful recovery and passing necessary fitness tests. Aprilia Racing, his current team, confirmed the severity of his injuries, including complex fractures, which significantly hinder his participation in early races of the season.

In summary, Jorge Martin will miss the Argentina Grand Prix due to an injury sustained during training, with his participation in subsequent races contingent upon recovery progress. The slow healing of his left hand fracture raises concerns over potential complications, necessitating a careful approach from his medical team. Martin’s absence from these early races marks a challenging beginning to the defense of his MotoGP title.
