Aston Martin’s Valkyrie hypercar will debut at the Qatar 1812km in the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship, marking the brand’s return to the top tier of sportscar racing since 1989. The race car, derived from a road-legal model, is equipped with a powerful V12 engine. A notable driver lineup is set to compete, signaling a significant chapter for Aston Martin in endurance racing.

Aston Martin will make history as the Valkyrie hypercar debuts globally at the Qatar 1812km, the opening round of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Lusail International Circuit. This marks the first time the British manufacturer competes in the top class of sportscar racing since 1989. The Valkyrie is unique for being the only road-legal hypercar racing in both the WEC and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The race car is optimized from the production model, utilizing a carbon fiber chassis and a 6.5-liter V12 naturally aspirated engine, producing over 1,000bhp while adhering to a power limit of 500kw. Aston Martin has been a participant in the WEC since its inception in 2012, and this debut represents a significant milestone in their quest for victory at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race last won by the brand in 1959.

The driver line-up for the two-car program includes notable talents such as Harry Tincknell, Tom Gamble, Marco Sørensen, and Alex Riberas. Each driver brings a blend of experience and youth to the team. Ross Gunn and Roman De Angelis are also set to compete in Qatar as part of the Valkyrie program, while aiming to secure strong performances across the season.

Several drivers expressed their excitement and anticipation for the race. Tincknell remarked, “I’m massively looking forward to Qatar, to get to race the new Valkyrie Hypercar for the first time and to return to Aston Martin.” Gamble added, “It’s a dream come true to make my Hypercar debut with Aston Martin THOR Team.”

Team Principal Ian James articulated the significance of this event for Aston Martin, stating, “It’s Year One and we have to be realistic about what we can achieve… if I didn’t think we could reach the summit of the mountain, we wouldn’t be doing it.” Adam Carter emphasized the Valkyrie’s place in history and the commitment to strong competition in the WEC.

The 2025 season marks a historic beginning for Aston Martin with the Valkyrie hypercar, competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship. With a talented driver lineup and a well-crafted vehicle, the brand aims for significant achievements. This debut not only highlights Aston Martin’s legacy in endurance racing but also sets the stage for its future prospects in this competitive arena.
