Police in Eldama Ravine have detained 20 women suspected to be victims of a human trafficking operation after they were found in a vehicle without identification. The women, aged 20 to 25, were flagged for speeding, and upon investigation, officers discovered they were malnourished and lacked documentation. The driver fled the scene, prompting further investigation into the case.

Authorities in Eldama Ravine are investigating a suspected human trafficking operation after the apprehension of 20 women found in a vehicle under dubious circumstances. The women, appearing malnourished and lacking valid identification, were discovered traveling in a Toyota Hiace that had been stopped for speeding at the Makutano junction along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

Upon the driver’s flight from the scene, police conducted interrogations with the women and subsequently reported the incident at the Makutano Police Station. They were later transferred to the Koibatek Sub-County Police Station for further investigation. The Koibatek Sub-County Police Commander, Joel Chepkwony, reported that the women were attired in buibuis and did not possess identification cards.

According to Richard Cheruyot, the Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations at the Sub-County, the women are aged between 20 and 25 years and originate from various regions across the country. The representation includes seven from Mombasa, four from Kakamega, and two each from Kwale and Nairobi, with additional individuals from Elburgon, Voi, Meru, Kitale, and Nyandarua.

Cheruyot confirmed that the women will remain at the station pending the outcome of investigations into the suspected trafficking syndicate. Efforts are underway to uncover the specifics of the case and to identify those involved in the operation. Additionally, police are coordinating with the National Transport Services Authority to determine the vehicle’s ownership and the ultimate destination of the women.
