Jorge Martin, MotoGP champion, will skip the Thailand GP due to a left hand fracture incurred during training. He is undergoing surgery following earlier injuries from a pre-season crash. Lorenzo Savadori will replace him in the race, as recovery duration remains uncertain.

Jorge Martin, the reigning MotoGP champion from Aprilia Racing, will unfortunately miss the Thailand Grand Prix due to a new injury sustained while training. Reports indicate that Martin fractured his left hand on Monday, occurring just before the commencement of the racing season in Buriram. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday to address this injury.

This latest setback comes after Martin was recuperating from injuries resulting from a serious crash during pre-season testing at Sepang earlier this month. In that incident, he suffered multiple fractures to his right hand and left foot, requiring hospitalization and surgery for a severe head injury.

Martin’s medical team had previously assured that he was ready to travel to Thailand for his participation in the pre-season events. However, this new injury has led to a critical change, as he will now be unable to compete in the upcoming race. The duration of his recovery remains uncertain.

This left-hand fracture adds to a challenging winter period for Martin, who had recently signed a lucrative contract with Aprilia Racing after achieving success with Pramac Ducati in the previous season. Although he had the opportunity to begin testing Aprilia’s RS-GP at November sessions, his progress has been severely hampered by injuries.

Apilia released a statement detailing Martin’s condition, reporting a complex fracture of the radius and carpal bones, plus an ipsilateral calcaneal fracture, leading to the decision for surgical intervention at the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona. As a result, Lorenzo Savadori will step in to replace Martin for the Thailand Grand Prix while recovery timeframes will be assessed post-surgery.

In summary, Jorge Martin will miss the Thailand Grand Prix following a recent fracture to his left hand sustained during training. This is on top of recovery from previous injuries incurred during pre-season testing. Lorenzo Savadori will take his place, as Martin is set for surgery. His recovery timeline is presently unknown, amidst a challenging begin to his season with Aprilia Racing.
