On February 10, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake was reported in Morocco, following several significant seismic events in Vanuatu and the Cayman Islands. The National Weather Service lifted a tsunami warning for the Mexican coastline. Overall, a series of earthquakes impacted various regions within a short timeframe, prompting assessments of potential threats.

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Morocco on February 10, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake’s epicenter was located in Chefchaouen, at a depth of 10 kilometers (approximately 6.2 miles). At the time of reporting, the USGS documented 420 instances of people feeling the seismic event.

This earthquake in Morocco occurred shortly after a 5.9-magnitude quake hit Vanuatu on the same day. The epicenter of the Vanuatu tremor was situated in Port-Vila, at a depth of 18 kilometers (around 11.9 miles). Both earthquakes prompted a heightened awareness of seismic activity in various regions.

On February 8, prior to these events, a significant 7.6-magnitude earthquake had affected the Cayman Islands, particularly George Town, which was also at a depth of 10 kilometers. Following this, a tsunami warning was briefly issued along the Mexican coastline but was lifted just two hours afterwards as the National Weather Service confirmed the threat had passed, adding that unusual currents may still be observed in specific areas.

Additionally, the chain of earthquakes included a 3.4-magnitude quake in California on February 7 in Petrolia, also at a depth of 10 kilometers. This earthquake came after a previous 2.9-magnitude tremor in Petrolia, which was reported on February 6, at a shallower depth of 4.4 kilometers (approximately 2.7 miles). Earlier, another quake recorded was a magnitude 4.3 event in Alaska on February 5, located in Sustina at a depth of 5.4 kilometers (about 3.4 miles).

In summary, the recent seismic activity on February 10 includes a 5.1-magnitude earthquake in Morocco, preceded by a 5.9-magnitude event in Vanuatu. The Cayman Islands experienced a notable 7.6-magnitude quake just days prior, alongside multiple other earthquakes affecting the California and Alaska regions. Authorities have monitored the situation, and tsunami threats have been confirmed as resolved.
