ZimParks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo commented on his extraordinary endurance, noting that “it is estimated that he walked through the harsh terrain of the lion-infested Matusadona National Park for 49 kilometers from his village to the point where he was found.”
After receiving notification of his disappearance, rangers, local villagers, and local police initiated a search, although efforts were complicated by adverse weather conditions. His footprints were eventually located on December 30, with the rescue occurring early the next day. At the time of his recovery, Tinotenda was observed to be frail but without any visible injuries, leading local lawmaker Mutsa Murombedzi to describe the child’s survival as “a miracle.”
Murombedzi remarked on the boy’s resourcefulness, explaining that he had slept on elevated rocks to avoid potential encounters with predators.
